A crash course in parenting daughters
LONGWOOD, FL-You don't need a private eye to scope out the male perspective on raising daughters. Rev. Will Kenlaw hands it straight to you in A Father's Guide to Raising Daughters: For Women (paperback, 978-1-60034-724-5; hardcover, 978-1-60034-725-2). If your husband isn't as involved with your daughters as he could be, or there is no father in the home, or you just desire some advice along the way, this book is for you. The guide, written after the success of Kenlaw's first book for fathers, focuses on the parenting journey and is based on the author's own experience of parenting four daughters. "Parenting is harder now than ever before, and parents need all the help and advice they can get," says Kenlaw. "Two-parent households are declining, but the male voice and perspective remains vitally important for raising godly daughters."
Included in the manual are 33 tips, stories, and lessons to help with parenting; 40 ways mothers can make a difference; the importance of the 15th birthday, called "Quinceanera" in Hispanic cultures; and what men really think of "hoochie mama" clothes. With today's family unit turned topsy-turvy by a lack of moral and spiritual guidance, it's more essential than ever for young women to have a strong moral compass and a male figure who can imbue her with such a trait. Kenlaw's book offers nuggets of wisdom to help parents navigate their daughters through the first 18 years the most formative of their lives.
Rev. Will Kenlaw is the father of four daughters. He has a master's degree in theology from Evangel Theological Seminary, a master's degree in business administration from the Harvard Business School, and a bachelorŐs degree in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He is an ordained itinerant elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, serving as outreach and evangelism minister at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Silver Spring, Maryland.
