LONGWOOD, FL-With trends such as the hyphy, crunk, gangsta, goth, and witchcraft movements transforming ordinary kids into hardened criminals, many of today's children are at risk of becoming ensconced in a "thug mentality." This mentality is slowly pervading and ripping apart the moral fiber of our society in ways that will change the social, moral, and financial foundations we have come to rely on in our daily lives. Rayford L. Johnson's Thug Mentality Exposed (paperback, 978-1-60266-307-7) takes a look into the purposes, procedures, and mentality as to why our youth follow the patterns they see demonstrated in such groups. The setting takes place within a California youth prison which has been televised nationwide for its gang violence, and more than 80 interviews from inmates are included within the book.

"This book covers the deep spiritual roots of the thug, going all the way back to India with the notorious Thuggee tribe," says Johnson. "In short, the book teaches four critical areas regarding thug mentality: Awareness of thug mentalityÕs harmful effect, knowledge of where it comes from, wisdom on how to avoid its pitfalls, and a call to join the mission to combat this deadly epidemic, which has gone worldwide with the aid of the entertainment industry."

Now is the time to educate ourselves on these deadly social issues that can drastically impact our loved ones. With this knowledge, we can begin healing by providing truth and hope to an expected at-risk population and prevent them from being incarcerated or held bondage by deadly addictions which are leading many to an early grave.

An ordained minister, Rayford L. Johnson is a youth correctional counselor, youth counselor, and photojournalist. He lives in California.
