LONGWOOD, FL-A class trip to an interesting island leads to special clues in a crime case in Under the Eye of the Magpie ($10.99, paperback, 978-1-60957-306-5), a riveting new book from Xulon Press author Alice E. Smith. Spend two weeks in faraway South Korea with Annie, Jack, and friends at an international Christian school where the days are never boring and an adventure waits at every turn. Help them to solve a puzzling mystery while experiencing new scenery and exciting moments. Cats, horses, and birds add charm to this new book, which is geared toward "tweens."

"[I hope readers learn that] when given a chance, young people are able to solve real problems," the author says. "Their natural curiosity is not just child's play. Empowered by their God-given abilities and youthful enthusiasm, they can make a difference no matter what age they are."

In 2006, Alice E. Smith received the Distinguished International Teacher of the Year Award from the Lutheran Education Association. Her joy and passion in the classroom has been to teach units on Children's literature and the writing process. Step by step, she has guided hundreds of students through the writing process to publish their own poetry, illustrated stories, and chapter books with desktop publishing programs. The work of her students has been showcased through authors' teas, readers', theater and library displays. This is her first book to be professionally published with Xulon Press.
