LONGWOOD, FL--Is the gift of tongues still a vital part of the church or has it indeed ceased to be active in the church today? There are two main schools of thought in Christianity that use the same Bible and worship the same Lord but have radically divisive ideas concerning spiritual gifts--particularly the spiritual gift of tongues. Tongues vs. Cessationism! The Great Debate Settled?! ($15.99, paperback, 978-1-61579-265-8)--written by Rev. Barry K. Voorhies with Bruce P. Burgess and Rev. Gary L. Voorhies--offers solutions to divisions that have existed for nearly 2,000 years and takes a fresh look at all the Scriptures pertaining to tongues.

As one of the only books the author has seen that is not written from either a cessationistic or a tongues viewpoint, his is one that promotes neither, but instead advocates an understanding between believers of both camps. "I would hope that readers would get a much more balanced view of the gift of tongues," Rev. Barry K. Voorhies says. "More importantly, that believers from both sides of the issue would gain a thoroughly biblical stance on the spiritual gift of tongues."

Voorhies has been in the ministry for 34 years, serving most of his life at the local church level. In this capacity, he has encountered the issues this book deals with repeatedly. "It is that ministry experience that has led me to believe that neither tongues nor cessation theology is totally right," he explains. "My hope is that [my book] becomes a valuable resource as you prayerfully consider Jesus' prayer for someday believers, '...that they may be one...'"
