LONGWOOD, FL-Author Mary Cromwell-Hillenburg's new release, Close to Mommy's Heart (978-1-60477-672-0), is a much-needed publication that presents the truth about "when life begins, according to God." Her son, Tom, now 33, was scheduled to die on a Friday morning in January 1974. Cromwell-Hillenburg was one of millions of women who had made decisions to abort their unborn children. For her, it was a choice initially propelled by fear and shame. She believed Tom was a "nothing" at that time in her pregnancy, which strengthened her resolve to go through with the abortion. But less than 24 hours before the scheduled procedure, she received a fateful call from the clinic that they were going to have to close down indefinitely. By the time she could arrange a future appointment with another clinic, Tom would have surpassed the age wherein it was affordable to abort him. This proved to be a blessing in disguise.

Says the author, "My son, Tom, lives today because 33 years ago, a group of pro-life people stood in the gap for his life outside the doors of the abortion clinic at a time when I would have made the decision to take it away. I will forever be grateful for those wonderful people who carry the pro life banners on the streets and/or in their hearts as we gather daily on the 'battlefield for life.' I used to call them 'fanatics.' Now I am one."

Penned several years ago while the author was working in the pregnancy care ministry, Close to Mommy's Heart was truly the work of God. "I believe [my book] will be a great teaching tool for little children so they will learn at an early age that life is sacred," the author says. "I feel that I need to do whatever I can to let everyone know a baby's life begins at conception."
