New Xulon Press title calls for a return to righteousness in the church

LONGWOOD, FL-In order to gain acceptance from mainstream secular society, many church leaders have lowered their God-established standards of reverence, righteousness, and respect. In doing so, they have allowed the banner of the cross to fall in dishonor, so says Wayne Edwards, author of Raising the Standard (paperback, 978-1-59781-472-0). The new Xulon Press title is one pastor's plea for a revival among God's people, a removal of worldly concepts about what it means to be a Christian, and a return to righteousness in the church. Within its pages, readers will find a critical analysis of the contemporary church movement and its negative impact upon the true purpose of the church.

Says Edwards, "By not being willing to be different from the world, today's church is not making any difference in the world. By lowering the standards of righteousness to be acceptable by the world, the church has allowed the cross of Jesus Christ to fall in dishonor. But the greatest disgrace to our Lord is that there is no great cry among God's people to see that standard raised again."

A graduate of Columbia International University and the Southern Baptist Center for Biblical Education, Edwards began research for this book in 1992, during which time the contemporary church began to be more interested in church attendance rather than true church growth. "Because of my strong commitment to discipleship and personal spiritual, growth, I began to speak out against the doctrinal errors and the outright heresy of their tactics," the author says. "That voice, crying in the wilderness, has now been documented in print."
