LONGWOOD, FL-Line upon line, precept upon precept, Matt Bower's Standing by the Pillar (paperback, 978-1-60477-510-5; hardcover, 978-1-60477-511-2) challenges the contemporary Christian's understanding of God's requirements on their lives. Utilizing biblical stories as analogies to our current situation, this book reveals that the Christian cannot have a significant impact on the culture unless he or she serves God with all of their heart, soul, mind, and strength. To attempt any compromise on God's call on each Christian's life is to run the risk of being relegated to insignificance.

Says Bower, "While many books attempt to call the Christian to action through sheer emotionalism, Standing by the Pillar is a biblically-based approach to call every Christian to action. We are to deal with our own sin in a biblical manner, then we are to turn and apply the same Word of God that brought healing and wholeness to our own lives and bring healing and wholeness to the culture around us."

As a pastor for 10 years, Bower studied, applied, and taught biblical principles as they related to everyday life, in addition to teaching the social sciences in both public and private high schools. Working with youth has given him a unique perspective of the trends of the culture. It has also given him insight into the practicalities of a biblical worldview, raising up a biblical standard, and seeing the youth rally to that high calling of God on their lives.

Matt Bower pastors Covenant Community Church, located in the heart of the Yakima Valley, where he lives with his wife and their seven children.
