LONGWOOD, FL--Within the pages of Xulon Press author Barbara Geesey's A Child's First Christmas in Heaven ($11.99, paperback, 978-1-61579-198-9; $19.99, hardcover, 978-1-61579-199-6), readers will find a story of profound hope, trust, and love--one that chronicles how a small child changed the lives of a family forever. Ella--who suffered severe handicaps from birth--transformed each member of the Geesey family into a stronger, better person despite her disabilities. And it was because of this experience that the author and her other family members found themselves touched by her legacy of love. Read along as she recounts the beauty in Ella, the courage she exhibited in her struggle to survive, and her grace in everyday living.

"[I hope readers get] a sense that handicapped children are a joy and can add so much to a family," the author says. "[I hope they also understand] what a great loss [it is] having a child die. Perhaps [this book] can help other families who have had a child die and/or a handicapped child."

Geesey, a retired teacher with a prolific 30-year career, draws on a lifetime of experience in the writing of this book. As a full-time caregiver to Ella and a former special education teacher, she felt compelled to pen A Child's First Christmas in Heaven so that others might know the great need for foster care and respite aid among medically fragile children. "When you open your heart to them, you may find yourself face to face with God's love and grace," she says.

Barbara Geesey currently resides in Denver, Colorado.
