LONGWOOD, FL--What would you do if someone close to you suddenly developed Alzheimer's, depression, and dementia? Can you imagine how this would change your life--and the life of the one you love? Xulon author D. L. Bennett's Alzheimer's, Depression, and Dementia: A Husband's Observations ($13.99, paperback, 978-1-60647-743-4; $21.99, hardcover, 978-1-60647-744-1) tells how one couple faced this tragic situation. This book, developed from a private journal the author kept during this difficult time, recounts his wife Helen's long hospital and nursing home stays, which took her away from home for almost 10 months, as well as her joyous return home, where she lived with her husband for more than two and a half years until her death. The book also stresses the importance of the need for loving care during serious or fatal illness, as well as the need to accept forgiveness after tragic disappointments.

Says Bennett, "I bring absolutely no experience or credentials to this field. The book was written as my wife and I lived it during her illness. Hopefully, others facing a similar situation can profit by what we did--maybe even learn how to avoid some of the mistakes I made."

Bennett, who compiled these notes, says it was a "learn on the job" experience for him. A professional tax accountant by trade, the newly minted author met and married his wife, Helen, in 1962. The two worked together for many years in the distribution of Christian books with Successful Living Books before moving to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, in 1985, where they continued the same work.
