LONGWOOD, FL-In the early '60s, five Christian missions directed their activities toward the Western Dani tribe in Papua, Indonesia. During a rich and rewarding missionary career spanning nearly 50 years, David L. Scovill and his wife, Esther, ministered to the Dani and in so doing left behind a legacy of strong churches under the direction of national leadership. These inspiring personal experiences are documented in David Scovill's The Amazing Danis (paperback, 978-1-60266-117-2).

"This book is the story about our work among the Western Dani people in the interior of Papua. It will encourage young people and churches to become more excited participants in reaching the nations," says Scovill.

At the time of the Scovills' arrival, the Dani tribe numbered about 150,000 people. Scovill and his wife introduced medicine, better hygiene, and more nutritious foods in the villages, which have seen a population explosion. The tribe was also responsive to the gospel message in particular. Acceptance of the gospel message produced a transformation within this formerly hidden, animistic, stone-age people. Now Scovill seeks to prove to others that "missions are doable, fulfilling, and fun, because they are the dearest thing to the heart of God!"
