LONGWOOD, FL-We typically go through life with dreams and goals for our family that we are working to achieve. Then one unforeseen event can dramatically change all of these plans. In John D. Cook's My Best Friend ($13.99, paperback, 978-1-60647-399-3), the author tells the personal account of his late wife, Linda, who he describes as "a remarkable woman," and her commitment to their marriage, the Lord, and her family. The book also contains a section for couples to examine their own marriage from questions based on a broad range of experiences.

My Best Friend started as a collection of journal entries penned by Cook while on deployment or on assignment away from home. Gradually, the book morphed into the story of Cook's wife, Linda, their life together, and the commitment they both had to their marriage. The author hopes that by sharing their experiences, their story might just help a couple that could be struggling with similar issues.

Says Cook, "Communication is one of the most important parts of a marriage. This book is written in hope that couples will open up and talk to each other. As a couple, you share a special intimacy; each should feel free to talk to the other about anything, without fear or embarrassment. Marriage is not easy; it takes work, but [it is] well worth the effort."

The author hopes readers will realize that "life is too short," he says. "Don't miss an opportunity to say, 'I love you,' 'I was wrong,' 'I'm sorry,' or 'will you forgive me?' One never knows when one's time on earth will end. Don't wait and then find it's too late to tell someone what you needed to say."
