LONGWOOD, FL â€" Presented in a professional manner by a nurse and Christian therapist, Chronic Illness: Facing Its Challenges ($14.99, paperback, 9781612159058) addresses the challenges people may face prior to receiving a chronic illness diagnosis and, in the aftermath, learning to reach physical well-being. Author Aletha Kuenstler describes this book as a guide with multiple tools and methods to empower a person to manage their chronic illness and to grow spiritually. Kuenstler lives with several chronic illnesses and was given less than six months to live in her early thirties. She is currently living life to its fullest at 63 and testifies to God’s sustaining strength in the face of each new challenge.
Chronic Illness: Facing Its Challenges encourages people living with chronic illness to
develop a journal and a support system to serve as reminders of how God has
personally met their needs every step of the way. Readers are given a series of
thought-provoking questions at the end of each chapter and, by journaling these
answers, participants will have a record of what they have learned. Chronic
Illness: Facing Its Challenges also includes invaluable information
including how to determine an accurate diagnosis and how to get organized for
appointments with physicians, in addition to how to deal with suffering and
body image changes.
Aletha Kuenstler has over 25 years of professional
experience as a nurse and Christian psychotherapist working with individuals
with chronic illnesses and their families. In addition to being a social
worker, she has a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of
Wisconsin, Milwaukee and a master’s in nursing from the University of
Wisconsin, Madison. Although her fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are
in remission, she currently continues to live with the challenges of Crohn’s
disease, lupus, diabetes and other chronic illnesses.
