LONGWOOD, FL"Over 350 passages in the Bible pertain to fear, the most crippling disease on the face of this earth. In her eye-opening new book Fear Not: You Have Favor With God ($16.99, paperback, 978-1-61215-550-0), author Glenda Carlson declares that faith is the opposite of fear and shows readers how to cultivate a life of faith-filled thoughts, plans, and actions.

Carlson’s book springs out of hard-won experience. As she says, ?"Over 20 years ago I received a call into the ministry. I ran in the opposite direction. Not long after that God gave me a vision in a dream of this book, Fear Not. Little did I know how many tests I would have to go through in order to qualify for the assignment. However, God can, and often does, use those of us who are very strong-willed for His glory.” After being molested as a child, with low self-esteem, Carlson was ?"looking for love in all the wrong places and faces.” Due to silicone poisoning caused from breast implants, she was diagnosed with 24 different ailments and spent many years on disability.

By God’s mercy and grace, she was able to overcome without any pharmaceutical drugs"and all the while He was doing a major work inside her heart. Today Carlson teaches others that fear, the devil’s most powerful weapon against us, is actually ?"perverted faith,” because fear can bring to us exactly what we fear, as it did to Job in the Bible (Job 3:25). The only antidote to a life of fear, she says, is a life of profound faith, which is free for the taking to anyone who asks God.

Rev. Glenda Z. Carlson is pastor of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church in Enterprise, Alabama, and Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Hartford, Alabama.
