Longwood, FL- The new Xulon Press book Bathers Baseball ($27.99 paperback ISBN 9781613795422) sets the foundation of minor league baseball during a time when professional baseball was void. This book describes first reported ventures in minor league baseball in the South. The group played organized baseball intermittently from 1887 through 1909. The Bather Baseball players were a group of young men who aspired to play major league baseball. This book depicts their highs and lows as a team.

The minor league teams in Hot Springs included many major league players such as "Hippo" Vaughn, Johnny Sain, Manager Paul "Daffy" Dean and Coach Earl "Oil" Smith. Many noteworthy players such as Mike Ilitch played for the Hot Spring Bathers. In 1953, the league banned the Tugerson brothers, who were African-Americans, from playing for the Bathers. In 1954, the Bathers became the first team in the league to sign an African-American baseball player.
