MAITLAND, FL Imagine moving to a foreign country alone, without family and friends and the chance to discover the depths of individuality and explore what it means to truly have a relationship with the Lord. Readers will discover in Dionna Latimer-Heam’s new book, Unexpected Places ($16.99, paperback, 978-1-61904-480-7; $26.99, hardcover, 978-1-61904-481-4), that is exactly what the author did shortly after graduating from college. Latimer-Heam picked up her entire life and fled the comforts of her life, she was able to leave behind and overcome the difficulties related to her childhood and growing up in a dysfunctional family unit. She arrived in France with nothing but her suitcases and her overwhelming emotions. Follow along with her as she struggles to establish herself and determine her unique identity and purpose in a new world, which allows her to experience God’s incredible mercy and sovereignty as He is the only One that can turn life’s lowest moments into spiritual prosperity.

“Ideally, readers will understand that they can overcome seemingly impossible situations and see God at work (and His purpose for them) in their lives despite difficult times,” states the author. “It is an inspiring story about overcoming your past and present fears, struggles and pain in order to become the person that God intends for you to be. It is an important message because of the number of people struggling with domestic violence, abuse, neglect, alcoholism and related issues for their formative years.”

Dionna Latimer-Heam is a practicing speech-language pathologist and the co-founder and director of the R.E.A.C.T. Initiative, which is a non-profit organization serving inner city youth. She currently lives in Maryland with her husband, Cedric and their three sons. Latimer-Heam has worked as a youth ministry leader for several years and has worked closely with and counseled youth on issues relating to those presented in her book.
