MAITLAND, FL— Every person’s childhood is different, but the life of a pastor’s child is one not many can identify with. Reverend Raiford Wheeler’s new book, A View From the Parsonage ($11.99, paperback, 978-1-61996-234-7; $19.99, hardcover, 978-1-61996-235-4; $5.99, eBook, 978-1-61996-236-1), documents the author’s life growing up in a church parsonage. He recalls being the first to get to church, the last to leave and being involved in every aspect of church that a child could participate in. This book, however, is not just documentation of Wheeler’s childhood, but also provides facts and valid information on how an imbalance in family and ministry time can have a negative effect on the family unit.

“Ministry is a family affair. No pastor is a Lone Ranger,” states the author. “Too many clergy families are being devastated by this thing called ministry. If truth be told, many of our pastors are in affairs outside of their marriage. The other woman is the Bride of Christ. We spend so much time with her we neglect our wives and family. I speak not from an abstract perspective, [but] have been up close and personal in this thing called ministry.”

Reverend Raiford Wheeler is the fourth of six children and was raised as a pastor’s child. He is a fourth generation pastor in his family and has experienced situations first-hand that all families in the ministry field have faced at one point or another.
