MAITLAND, FL— Within the pages of Hazel Minnick’s new book, Living in My Shadow: My Journey with Alzheimer’s ($21.99, paperback, 978-1-61904-692-4; $35.99, hardcover, 978-1-61904-693-1; $9.99, eBook, 978-1-61904-694-8), is a heartfelt personal journey of the author’s real life experience coping with this disease. She is dedicated to bringing understanding to this horrific disease and bringing a message of hope and encouragement to those personally living with its devastation. Her main desire is to show there is a way to live productively with Alzheimer’s disease. This book is truly unique because Minnick provides true insight into the life and mind of someone actually living with the disease and the daily fear, frustration and unpredictable confusion inherent with the disease.

“5.2 million people need to hear that there is a message of hope for living with their diagnosis of the disease of Alzheimer’s,” states the author. “I am living proof that there is a hope for those diagnosed with the horrific disease of Alzheimer’s — the silent predatory thief of the mind, memory and me. I am living proof that there is a means for reversing the symptoms of the disease.”

Hazel Minnick was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 53. She quickly entered the “land of the lost” not knowing how to properly feed herself and sometimes not even able to recognize her family. Today she promotes early diagnosis, meds to reverse the symptoms, and Ballroom Dancing to rehabilitate the mind and body. Recently experiencing her thirteenth year of living independently and vibrantly with Alzheimer's, she feels it is her personal responsibility to maintain her independence in living for as long as possible.
