MAITLAND, FL— Take off on an African adventure with David K. Phillips in his new book, One Foot in Bounds ($16.99, paperback, 978-1-62230-493-6; $8.49, eBook, 978-1-62230-622-0), and see what it is like to be a missionary child living in Kenya, waking up to wild animals close to the front door and the constant threat of civil unrest stemming from Mau Mau. Phillips paints an amazing picture of his life as a young Canadian-British boy studying in an American school in Kenya and allows his readers the opportunity to “step out of bounds” right alongside him.

“Presently, the world is characterized by mobility; children are often exposed to schools and cultures that do not belong to their own culture. Sometimes people fear that growing up in a cross cultural situation will have long term negative effects,” states the author. “[This book does not deny] the struggles involved in such international mobility, [it] shows how character formation is enhanced through unique circumstances.”

David K. Phillips has extensive international living experience. He grew up in Africa during a time when colonies were striving for independence from European masters. As an adult, he and his wife raised their two daughters in South America, plus two orphaned boys as well as providing assistance to refugees and asylum seekers in the Middle East. Phillips has served as a mentor and coach for families facing educational challenges and international transitions in more than twenty-five countries. His conviction lies in the thought that the Lord will be able to finish the good work started in each child.
