MAITLAND, FL— Within the pages of Jo Anne Alcott Buckley’s new book, Blessings for John Mark ($16.99, paperback, 9781626973763; $8.99, e-book, 9781626973770) readers will be able to picture how life would have been during the time Jesus lived on earth. Buckley tells the story of John Mark, whose father, Nicodemus a Temple Priest, sends him to school in Qumran to become a priest, but John Mark becomes a scribe. Readers will learn about the family, friends, religious events and historical events John Mark encounters throughout his life.

“I pray that [the book] will encourage readers to imagine what life would have been like in the first century and help them to want to know more about biblical and historical events,” states the author. “It should increase their emotional awareness of what life was like in Jesus’ time and encourage them to read from both the New and Old Testaments.”

Jo Anne Alcott Buckley is married and has four children. The author has traveled twice to the Holy Land and has seen sights, and heard, and read about discoveries of how the Christian and Jewish people lived in the first century. Jo Anne feels that we get to know and understand the people, and the stories in the Bible when we know how they lived and what and what kind of political and religious situations they encountered. She has tried to do this with John Mark, as a young boy, and as he grows up and learns to do the things that he feels he is called to do as a scribe, recording the Life and times of Jesus and his disciples and family friends. This includes two pets that he and his best friend Stephen name “Blessings and New Blessings.”
