MAITLAND, FL— Within the pages of Pastor Mike Vetsch’s new book, Wilderness Cries: Poems from the Heart of a Country Preacher ($13.99, paperback, 9781624199622; $6.99, e-book, 9781624199639) readers will see his passion for those he serves in a collection of poems about the “wilderness times”—that is, times of hardship—in the life of a congregation and its pastor. The work is unique in that each poem is followed by an explanation of its circumstances and the emotions that accompany death, loss, pain and joy.

“I would hope that readers come away with the sense that we all share ‘wilderness times’ and that when we go through them, we sometimes touch the divine,” states the author. “I would also hope that the ‘wilderness cries’ in this book resonate with cries they themselves have had. This reality will help them better understand the truth that the only way any of us get through wilderness times, is by sharing them; by coming together as family, church and community.”

Pastor Mike Vetsch was raised in the inner city of Minneapolis and has been a poet for over thirty years and a pastor for twenty years. He learned to express himself through poetry at a young age and it proved to be successful as he has published several poems. He has a gift of being able to capture the raw emotions he has experienced during the trials and tribulations of college, seminary, being a rural pastor and life in general. The author has shared the wilderness times he writes about with members of his congregation, personally.
