MAITLAND, FL— Cross and Collar: Memories of People and Events in the Life of a Rural Shepherd ($20.99, paperback, 9781628394726; $9.99, e-book, 9781628394733) tells the tale of Reverend Torgerson, a Lutheran minister living in the rural Midwest between World War I and World War II. Faith, tenacity and family history hold everyone’s lives together as unexpected events begin to unfold.

“This story reminds as that when you are faced with a mystery or some unseen thought or event, God always answers our prayers,” says the author. “There are many ‘roadblocks’ in our daily lives; He knows they are there, and His hand is always available to help you around, over, or through, each problem.”

Tauno O. Ekonen has seen the hand of God move throughout his long and colorful life. Born on a farm in Upper Michigan, Ekonen later served in the Infantry and the Army Air Corps from 1941-1946. Back home in Oklahoma, he worked for the USPS and went on to become the first registrar of the Oklahoma Postal Training Operations in Norman, Oklahoma. In addition, Ekonen was a professional violin maker, and taught the young adult Bible class at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City.
