MAITLAND, FL— G. L. Sydney Simmons’s new book,
Strangers
in the Village ($16.99, paperback, 9781626976894;
$8.99, e-book, 9781626976900)
portrays
that every man universally carries throughout his life an inextinguishable
attachment to the place or village of his birth. The author personally
experienced that no matter where an individual may end up, despite his or her
longing for that particular hometown or village of birth, “he must painfully
realize and despondently accept that physical separation has the capacity to transform
him.”
“I hope that readers will realize that no matter the level of success or achievement in life, true happiness comes not from the pursuit of external sources, but from the satisfying of that deep seated inner desire to belong to the place or village of one’s birth,” states the author. “Although set in the tiny island of Barbados, it captures the universality of human experience, which is applicable to any country and any village anywhere.”
G. L. Sydney Simmons has worked as an educator, broadcaster and business consultant. He has travelled and worked in Africa, Australia, Europe, the Americas and throughout the Caribbean. He currently divides his time between freelance broadcasting—mainly in the area of current affairs—and working in his church where he serves as an elder, Sabbath school teacher and facilitates family life programs. He and his wife, Monica, have three grown children. Although, the author is a world traveler, he expresses a unique perspective by stating, “…[I] have always been captive to the magnetic pull that my own village has always exerted on my own psyche while being painfully aware that that very romantic and idealistic village experience can be a mere figment of one’s imagination as one struggles to recapture the allure of one’s youth.”
