MAITLAND, FL— Within the pages of Pastor Chris Halverson and Linda Nietman’s new book, Seeing with the Mind, Hearing with the Heart, ($15.49, paperback, 9781498443142; $7.99, e-book, 9781498443159) readers will discover a thematic bible study on Luke – an examination of the portions of Luke’s Gospel unique to Luke in a complementary way – by a Pastor and a Lay Person. It is written with love of God and God’s Word, and it’s the authors’ desire to share that Word and stir it in others. Book offers two unique perspectives both in varying ages and training.
“We hope the reader’s experience of the book will enrich their reading of other portions of the bible in a way that combines the scholarly and the spiritual,” states the authors. “We also hope churches can use the 7 chapters as the basis for a 7-session bible study.”
Pastor Chris Halverson is the son of a Hippie and a Biker. He is a Cambridge educated, world traveler, trained to serve in an urban African American Church. He is mightily surprised to find himself serving a white suburban church in New Jersey. His academic and outsider perspective gives a unique eye for the Gospel.
Linda Nietman’s love affair with scripture has been going on since she received a Bible as a Confirmation gift at age 12. Through high school, nursing school, and 50 years of nursing experience including a stint as a navy nurse (from Midway Island to Saudi Arabia in the Persian Gulf War), and 25 years teaching nursing, the Bible has been her constant companion. Nothing gives her greater pleasure than sharing that love with others.
