It is my desire that the reader will feel Nora Mae's hope and be invigorated with a sense that one can securely face all of life's challenges because, although we don't always know it, God is with us,” states the author. “I want them to feel her rejection, her fortitude, her creativity, and then her faith and driving compassion as she ages.”

Alice Hein Schiel is Nora Mae's tenth child. She witnessed the way her mother lived and admired the joy she radiated. More than thirty years ago, Alice told her mother that she wanted to write a book about her someday. Nora Mae began to randomly make notes – notes that her daughter placed into a file. When Nora Mae passed away in 2011, she left a small notebook with the inscription, "Give this to Alice." Alice’s siblings have also contributed childhood memories to help tell the story of their mother’s life. She also interviewed her mother's pastor and friends so that Nor Mae’s contribution to her community is accurately recorded.
