MAITLAND, FL—Robert Lane, M.D.’s new book, CANCER'S BELL LAP AND THE DRAGON BEHIND THE DOOR – A HANDBOOK FOR SERIOUSLY ENGAGING CANCER, ($16.99, paperback, 9781498454162; $8.99, e-book, 9781498454179) guides cancer patients on how to win the battle in life in order to help the doctors and treatments win the war for your body. Dr. Lane stresses that overcoming cancer is more like a marathon than a sprint; it goes on long after surgery or the last chemotherapy. He believes that cancer not only attacks the body, but it also attacks the patient’s life. Winning means beating it on both fronts. Doctors address the first but the patient is on his or her own with the second. This book helps the cancer patient identify the obstacles and to overcome them - and guides others in how to help the patient do it. With an extensive medical background and compassion, Dr. Lane meticulously guides readers through the complex maze of frightening questions and concerns regarding cancer.

I want readers to identify their own true goals and learn how to interact with doctors and make decisions respecting those goals,” states the author. “To recognize all the fears a cancer diagnosis engenders and how they impact their relationships, alter self image, squelch ambition, defeat purpose, eradicate joy – and to learn how to overcome those fears, to grow and prosper in spite of them – to find purpose in passing on their wisdom to the next generation.”

Robert Lane, M.D. is a Physician/Medical Oncologist who has cared for cancer patients for over 30 years. He played a leadership role in conceiving, implementing and directing Northwest Cancer Center (now Puget Sound Cancer Centers) in addition to Northwest Hospice and Seattle Breast Center. He has done clinical cancer research, lectured, and published – and has been a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington Medical School. He sat at the bedside, hugged and held more dying patients than most – and counts innumerable survivors as friends today – many of both groups were/are victorious.
