MAITLAND, FL— Steven L. Bigham’s new book, A New Life For David - Living With Bipolar, ($15.49, paperback, 9781498469968; $7.99, e-book, 9781498469975) provides much needed insight about bipolar disorder through fictional character David Bradford. As David journeys through life with bipolar, readers get a front row seat into his life and into his mind through a variety of situations he faces. When he loses his job because of his inability to handle his responsibilities, he questions God and wonders why he can’t be more like others. His elderly Uncle Arthur invites him to leave the city and come visit him at his distant Southern homestead in hopes of helping him.

David finds comfort in the company of his uncle, the quiet rural setting, and the church nearby. Many projects keep him busy, and he finds some purpose in life through gardening and brightening the life of his previous lonely uncle. In spite of his newfound peace, David is often reminded of his bipolar as he experiences the emotional and physical challenges it brings. As time passes, his faith and determination opens up opportunities to help others within the community and within the church.

This powerful story is an encouraging lesson for all readers to know that despite the trial being faced, a sincere walk with God – and depending upon His strength and grace – will make life's challenges bearable.

My hope is to help all readers understand what bipolar is through the eyes of the main character David,” states the author. “I want to encourage the reader that a strong faith and trust in God can lead a person into a life of victory no matter what the challenge he or she faces. A clear understanding of bipolar among family and friends could help countless people who suffer.”

Steven L. Bigham lives in Northwest Ohio where he has learned, by the grace of God, to manage his own bipolar for over two decades. He has been a Christian for nearly 50 years. Until he was about 30 years old, he chose to be a part of a Christian group that did not accept any type of mental illness as being legitimate, but a spiritual problem instead. At first, Steven hid his diagnosis because he was ashamed. As time passed, he got the help and understanding that he needed. He studied social work at a university and also led a mental illness support group. He truly knows the freedom that comes with personal acceptance and a strong faith in God. Steven teaches piano, loves to garden, and is active in his church as the organist and involvement with the children’s ministry. His great joy is to minister to others with bipolar and depression by encouraging them through his experience and by pointing them to God, the Great Source of Help.
