MAITLAND, FL— In his new book One
Book One Story, ($14.99, paperback, 9781545604809; $7.99, e-book, 9781545604816) David
W. Edwards traces the common theme of the Bible beginning with Genesis. Each
chapter tells a part of the story as it develops, fitting together the one main
story that is at the heart of God’s Word. Edwards helps readers understand the story
of the Bible, which he asserts changes the way we understand other issues. The
second half of the book is comprised of essays that examine these issues, such
as Christmas, baptism, Jesus’ temptation, the second coming, and more.
“Most
of us have understood the Bible as a library of mostly unconnected books. I have come to understand that the Bible
tells one coherent story, and that each of the various parts either add to or
retell the story in miniature,” states the author. “It really is a hope-filled
look at what God’s ultimate plan is and has been from the very beginning.
I believe the Church has lost its way,
partly because of a scattered approach to the Bible. We don’t present a coherent argument to the
world, focusing on ‘bumper-sticker’ theology. That means that we’ve largely
lost credibility. Recapturing an
integrated understanding of the Bible, and seeing the hope-filled message of
redemption, restoration, and re-creation should help us truly be light in a
dark world.”
David
W. Edwards earned a BA in Religion from
Northwest Nazarene University (Nampa, Idaho), and an MA in Theology from
Manchester (UK) University. He has been a pastor for thirty-six years and lives
in Vancouver, Washington, with his wife of forty years.
