In Be Like Christ: Exploring the Truth of Life in Christ, Tom Witherill
takes an in depth look at one of the most important questions in the life of a follower
of Jesus Christ … can we become like Jesus here and now in our earthly lives? To answer this ultimate question, Tom will
unfold some of the biggest controversies and stumbling blocks to living this
new life in Christ, and answer if it is even possible to be like Christ today, or do we have to wait until we are in
heaven to attain this goal? Some of the
issues to be looked at are: biblical
support , for and against, Christlikeness now, sin nature, free will, being
created in the image of God, is sin an option for Christians, what is a
disciple, how to live the Christian life now.
Tom will examine life in
the kingdom of God, explore the ideas and questions above and much more, using
the Bible, reason, logic, and truth.
Simply, how can we become powerful followers of Christ now, using all
the gifts God has given us, to become the children of God He’s intended us to
be, and to serve God on this earth in perhaps the greatest mission field in all
of creation? All this with the greatest
joy a life with God has to offer. And
most important of all, to learn to love God with all our heart, and with all our
soul, and with all our mind, and with all our strength! (Mark 12:30)
Tom Witherill
holds an MA in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. His undergraduate
studies are in Physics and Engineering. He
has always had a passion for truth, knowledge, and understanding the reality of
the world around him. A long time atheist/agnostic,
Tom did not come to a knowledge and faith in Jesus Christ until his mid-forties
after deciding to read the Bible to be better able to argue against Christians
about the validity of their faith, but then was challenged about the validity
of his own.
With the same
thirst for truth, knowledge, and understanding, he took on the task of
answering the “problems” he saw in Christianity before becoming a
believer. What he found was not only
were these “problems” answerable, but the answers were consistent with reality. The next problem he dealt with was the
general apathy he saw within the Christian community itself. Realizing the great beauty and truth of life
with God, this apathy and nominal attitude and general lack of understanding of
the very faith Christians professed, was perplexing. His thought was, “Christians have it all! Why
don’t they live with the joy and strength this faith gives?” This was the
starting point of his writing “Be Like Christ: Exploring the Truth of Life in
Christ”.
Tom’s heart
is also for unbelievers in general and the Atheist community in
particular. He’s seen both sides of the
argument and understands where many of the difficulties lie.
Tom has
taught Bible studies, Apologetics, Discipleship, and Evangelism at the local
church level for over 10 years and served as the Director of Discipleship for
his church. He has written detailed
commentaries on John, 1st John, and Luke (not yet published).
