Think back over the time you have been on your spiritual journey. It’s likely there are some people you have encountered whose lives are so winsome, so attractive, that they leave you thinking, “I want what they have.” They may be family members, teachers, pastors, mentors, or college buddies, anyone who loves God and shows it in their daily lives. They don’t attract you to themselves—they’re not “beautiful people” in the Hollywood sense—they attract you to beautiful Jesus who so evidently lives in and through them. They don’t necessarily have life together; in fact, they may be going through rough times, maybe suffering and misunderstanding. In spite of the problems they face—or maybe because of the problems—the word of God just oozes out of them. Psalm 119, the longest chapter in the Bible, is best known as a prayer based on the greatness of the Word. But it also captures the heart of the Word-saturated person in good times, bad times, seemingly impossible times. It provides rich answers to the question, “What do they have that I don’t have?” Come. Spend some unhurried time with your Bible and find out what makes these people tick. And ask God to help you walk in God’s word so that others are attracted to Jesus.
