Seconds are on the clock; you are the coach, determining what your team’s next move will be. Your star player just missed an easy opportunity to score the winning point. How do you handle this defeat?
Scenarios like this in the sports arena are what designate the respected coaches from the nightmare coaches, situations that anyone desiring to be a coach should consider.
Christian author Gerald Davis knows a thing or two about coaching, having had over two decades of coaching high school, college and AAU basketball. He understands that to be a truly successful sports coach takes time, patience, and appreciation for the game and all those involved with it.
This is conveyed most in his second authored book, “So…You Think You Want to Be a Coach?”, a collection of a hundred lessons on the practicalities of effective coaching.
Coaching is a lot more than x’s and o’s.  It’s about having a feel for the team and understanding what makes every individual tick; and treating your players like you would want to be treated yourself. .….at the end of the day - can you honestly say that you’re treating those you care about with the respect and dignity that they deserve?

The book covers several aspects of coaching all levels of sports teams, such as displaying good sportsmanship while on the sports field to academic achievement for high school and collegiate.
To couple with Gerald’s expertise and advice are examples of notable sports coaches who have demonstrated exceptional teaching and respectful authority that left a mark in the sports world.
Becoming a sports coach shouldn’t be about getting a decent paycheck and acquiring admiration from players and fans alike. It is, to Gerald and his sporting heroes, becoming a loving mentor and teacher to those trusting in your leadership.
