Congregational Prayers by the Word is a book of prayers that can be used as is in the church as well as instruction for confident praying in any setting. Daisy Marsh Ferguson is an eighty-eight-year-old prayer warrior who received encouragement from her bishop who asked, “How old is too old to fulfill your dreams?” She writes of the beginning of her prayer ministry:
One of the ladies in charge of the We Care Ministry at my church asked me if I would say the prayer for their gathering. I said “Yes” because I was too ashamed to say “No.” At the time I only knew how to pray a simple prayer but not how to pray in front of a congregation. So the following day I started pacing the floor and saying, “God, please teach me how to pray, please Lord. I don’t want to embarrass myself, Lord, and I don’t want to embarrass you.” Then I clearly heard a soft voice said to me: “Pray by my Word.” Immediately I took my Bible and started reading word after word. I put prayer to them, and wrote them on the tablet of my heart. When I went to the gathering, I prayed without feeling any stage fright, and my sisters and brothers all said that it was a beautiful prayer. I came home thanking and praising God and saying, “God, thank you for being there with me! I did not embarrass myself, and I did not embarrass you, Lord.” And instantly the same soft voice said to me to write a book of prayers and have it published. I did not question God because I had just proven how great He is.
I love you, Lord. Amen.
