Is that, could it be? Lisa had to take a double take when she noticed a baby camel standing alongside that of a wayward giraffe. It seems very unlikely to see a baby camel without its mother, and in an animal friendship with a giraffe.
When Lisa noticed the giraffe again without the camel, she decided it was time to take some action, in the latest fictional book by author Carol Tankersley, The Scene from the Bus.
Recently appointed to teach at the mission school in a sanctuary preserve in Southern Africa, Lisa was limited in who she could turn to for help; that is until Judah, a native member of the Bushman community, offered her help and directions to find the preserve’s resident agent, John.
John felt compassion, and maybe a little attraction, to Lisa upon hearing her plight to find and save the orphaned baby camel, so they went on a search to locate her. With Judah’s help, the baby camel was found being cared for by a local woman, who was willing to let her new friend be taken to the local vet for care.
Lisa seemed to have more of a connection to the camel than a person would, which readers find out later in the book, but her hope to see the little camel thrive without her mother is something shared by everyone present. From the veterinarian to Judah to John, everyone agrees the baby camel has something to live for.
Meanwhile, one of the suspects responsible for the baby camel’s orphaning turns out to be an orphaned boy himself, which leads to a whole new series of events and experiences.
What started as a Scene from the Bus becomes an interesting glimpse into the lives of the people on the preserve and the importance of caring for all who need help, animals included.
