Book Summary
Songs for the Master is both a free-verse offering in poetry and lyrics of love and gratitude to God- encompassing Father, Son, and Holy Spirit- and a personal journal of the author's varied experiences as a Christian- his joys and struggles. Its author, Martin Weiss, grew up in a secular Jewish home near New York City. As an adolescent, he participated in the student protests of the 1960's and 1970's. After searching for meaning in radical politics, relationships, and artistic expression, he discovered true fulfillment and peace could only be achieved by accepting the Prince of Peace as Savior. Upon receiving Yeshua (Jesus) as his Messiah, he was instantly delivered of a ten-year cigarette habit, and made aware of the inerrancy of the Bible as God's Word, and His love and concern for unborn children. Martin now resides in Van Nuys (Los Angeles), where he attends the Church at Rocky Peak.
Author Profile
Martin Weiss grew up in a caring but secular Jewish home in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. (near New York City). At 14, he started writing poetry seriously at Buck’s Rock, a camp where different types of artistic expression were encouraged. Simultaneously, he began taking part in anti-Vietnam and other student protests. He went to N.Y.U. for two years, including one year in their Film School. In 1972, having spent time helping to construct a “free school” in Vermont, and painting at the Art Students League in Manhattan, he began attending Sarah Lawrence College, where he continued his poetry studies. Within a few months of receiving Yeshua (Jesus) as his Messiah at the end of 1979, he moved to Los Angeles, where he now works as an Administrative Assistant.
