Book Summary
The NORTHERN SPIRITS characters began their trek from the Lower 48 following the explosive declaration of the Alaskan gold discoveries in the early 1900's. There is a slightly different approach to this story as the northern spirits are not only the adventurers, but also the wilderness chorus, who warns the adventurers of their ignorance and disrespect to the land. Lani, a Black Indian woman, discovers searching for gold not an option to gain riches and whose life intertwines with the people she meets on the trail. A town grows from the small settlement of adventurers providing the social amenities similar to their past. Lani and her friends are a part of a new society which reflects the interconnection with their environment and world events. The adventurers discover the truest of treasures: friendships, love, food and warmth, and respect for the land they grew to love.
