“If accepting the LORD Jesus Christ as one’s Savior is enough,” Pastor Sampong writes, “why does the Holy Scripture admonish Christians to act differently than before?” In What is a True Christian? he offers an intelligent and comprehensive answer to this question. To do so, he asks further: What is repentance? What are the spiritual characteristics that separate the wheat from the chaff? What, specifically is the work of salvation?
The author is unflinching in his Scripturally-based and detailed examination of what distinguishes the true Christian from the unregenerate sinner. This might be a difficult book for those who are “lukewarm, ‘temporary’ or who ‘sit on the fence,’” to read, but it is a deep and meaningful voyage into discovery of where we place GOD in our hierarchy of life priorities. In the words of Bro. Sampong, “You can then self-examine your Christian profession in relation to GOD’s WORD to determine whether or not you need to reassess your faith and walk with the LORD.”
Pastor Joshua Sampong cites the parables of the LORD Jesus in the Bible, the writings of Charles Haddon Spurgeon, John Charles Ryle, and Thomas Watson, and quotes Martin Luther in support of his message. Absolute obedience in Christ alone is key, the author argues. Only as a new creation, having the faith in GOD to obey the Great Commission and reflecting His holiness can a person claim to be a true Christian.
