Author's Sit-Down Radio Interview Yields Exciting Opportunities

Youth ministry was the topic du jour when Xulon author Tim Ferguson made an appearance on the "Robin and the Giant" talk radio show, which runs out of Ocala, Florida. The author was there to promote his book, Not the Same Old, Done-It-Before Youth Meetings, a guide for youth workers in preparing for their youth meetings. Larry Winkler, the show's host, made this interview available to the general public via iTunes (http://phobos.apple.com/Webobjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=126270564). Says Ferguson, "Larry's opening remarks were, 'When I read this book, I realized this is really, really well done. You can tell by his exuberance, his enthusiasm, that he has been a real blessing to the youth he has worked with for over 30 years.' Later Larry asked me what youth got out of a youth group meeting. I replied that, besides providing a safe place for them to congregate, we want to challenge them to move forward in their faith and to learn how to apply that faith." Additionally, Ferguson has plans for a book signing at the New Horizons Christian Store in Coram, New York, this September. A review of his book will appear in The Presbyterian Outlook sometime in the fall of this year, along with an article he wrote titled "Youth, Trust, and Prayer."
Women's Empowerment Conference Features Xulon Author

Author Wilvena McDowell has had a marathon of book signings and local appearances ever since her book, Attributes of the Self, first hit stands. At her first event in the Barnes & Noble of Greensboro, North Carolina, Wilvena sold 30 books. She had her second largest book signing at the Barnes & Noble in Durham. In addition to being featured in the March issue of Triad Business Journal's "Women on the Move" article, she was the featured author at the annual Women's Empowerment Conference in Raleigh, which hosted 15,000 attendees. At the conference, she had the honor of presenting her book to world-renowned singer Natalie Cole. She also has appeared on the Warren Valentine Show on Al Sharpton Syndication One Radio, a nationally syndicated talk show broadcast across the nation. Plans for the future include book signings in Milpitas, California, and Houston this summer.
Local Publicity Opportunities Crop Up to Proactive Author Duo

Rev. Frederick A. Kohler and Gregory A. Banks had merely to plant a seed to see their book take root. In their hometown of Altoona, Pennsylvania, they have experienced success with book sales. Their book will soon be featured on Atlantic Broadband channel 9, an information channel that informs everyone in the area what is going on in their communities. The deal, which provides that the spot will air on cable 100-200 times daily for seven days every month, will prove lucrative in conjunction with the recent newspaper article/book review featured in The Altoona Mirror. The authors have just sent in a request for submission to Family Christian Stores, so be on the lookout for their book, Planting the Seed, to hit the shelves sometime soon. Book events with Family Christian Stores, as well as Barnes & Noble, are also in the works.
Author Lands Radio Appearances to Cement Popularity

Drawing closer to the great I Am amid the turmoil of today's society is one reigning precept in Diana Crews' City on a Hill Prayer Journal. The book, which has flourished after a string of local book signings, has recently gained statewide exposure as well. Crews has been burning up the airwaves with two major radio appearances in Montgomery and Dothan, Alabama. She sat down with Bob Crittenden on his show "The Meetinghouse," and has an interview with His Radio 94.3 FM already in the works.
Author's Book Sales Skyrocket Amid Local Exposure

City on A Hill Prayer Journal
Just as radio evangelist Charles Stanley described how a person on a camping trip with a camera sees things differently from a person without a camera, a person with Diana Crews' City on a Hill Prayer Journal will see their life in such a different manner that they can't help but focus on God. As the author toured her home state of Alabama doing publicity work, she found this to be the case in her readers' responses. So far, Crews has held a book signing at Dove's Christian Supply Store in Dothan where, to her delight, all remaining copies of her book sold like hotcakes. Dove's other store in Enterprise was also sold out. The author, who has interviewed with Ann Varnum of WTVY Dothan and plans a future book signing at The Lighthouse in Auburn-Opelika, attributes all her success to one source: "I thank God for the work He is doing as this is truly His book."
Chick-fil-A Taps Wilson as Part of 'Family Night'

Constance Complainer
Marti Wilson, the author of Constance Complainer, was invited to have a book signing at a local Chick-fil-A as part of their "family night." The signing was a huge success, and Wilson has been invited to return anytime to hold other signings. She has a second book signing scheduled at Chick-fil-A for later this month. She was also interviewed in her local community newspaper prior to her first book signing in March 2007. Additionally, her college will be spotlighting the book in its forthcoming alumni magazine. The issue will have an article on college community members who have been published and, upon learning of Wilson's publication of a children's book, the magazine offered to include information on her book in the article.
Word Spreads About Book 14 Years in the Making

Agape-Love How Important Is It Anyhow? (a doctrinal analysis)
Rick Gowdy has climbed the ladder of success all the way to the top with his Agape Love, How Important Is It Anyhow? A book 14 years in the making, it stemmed from the fact that the author could not realize why biblical godly love was not being taught thoroughly as a doctrine. He was included in an article of the Canon City Daily Record and made an appearance at Words of Life Christian Book Store in his hometown of Canon City. Despite his powerhouse success, nothing could prepare him for the recent death of his wife of 20 years. "She taught me far more about how to love than all I have ever studied," says Gowdy. "To say she was my example would be an understatement."

The author has plans to introduce a new blog feature on her official website (www.tawand.net) to discuss with readers depression and its applicable survival steps.
Author Gains Exposure Through Platform of Radio as Well as Book Signings

Attributes of the Self
Wilvena McDowell must be something of a household name in North Carolina. The Xulon author of Attributes of the Self has had her book promoted on 103.9 FM "The Light Radio Station" to more than 120,000 listeners in the Raleigh/Durham area, and on their corresponding online community announcements every Thursday. The Barnes & Noble at Southpointe Mall hosted a recent book signing for McDowell and mailed out their own promotion for the event.
Seitzinger's Book Generates Positive Reader Response

A Praying Grandparent
Xulon author Dorothy Hsu Seitzinger discovered that the time and effort it took to write A Praying Grandparent was all worthwhile when she started receiving notes in the mail as well as positive personal responses to her book. Says Seitzinger, "One woman told me she keeps a copy by her bedside to read before going to bed. The positive feedback from readers has been encouraging." The book, which encourages both new and seasoned grandparents to seek a new intensity in their prayers, delivered on all that it vowed to do: "bring smiles and a few tears."

The tenacious author also enjoyed success at a recent book signing that took place during two Grandparents' Day events at her local Christian school. Reports Seitzinger, "I was able to sell about 80 copies. I also spoke at a seniors' group on the topic of grand-parenting and sold 11 more copies. I am in the process of setting up more speaking engagements. My book has also done well at my church's bookstore."

City on a Hill Takes Flight with Publicity

City on a Hill Prayer Journal
Once upon a time, Xulon author Diana Crews wrote a little book called City on a Hill Prayer Journal, designed for families and individuals who want to reclaim and record their godly heritage. That little book has since spread its wings and taken flight with a series of interviews and book signings in Crews' native Alabama. The busy author took time out from her schedule to pop into Dove's Christian Supply and also chat up Ann Varnum of WTVY Dothan. Additionally, the author found herself spotlighted in the Sunday edition of the Dothan Eagle Newspaper. Not bad for a book with humble beginnings-as the brainchild of 25 years of observation in the Department of Human Resources and a solution to the overly rampant "ills of society."
Author "Excited and Having Fun" with Publicity Leg of Authorship

Satisfied Woman
At gatherings in her local Lumberton, North Carolina, Sarah Goebel, author of Satisfied Woman, scored book sales as well as something more valuable-the opportunity to meet, greet, and minister to her core audience. The book signings-held at a Family Christian Stores outlet and a local Christian bookstore-were very successful. Reports Goebel, "Seventeen books were sold, and I had the opportunity to minister to several persons. I have had three radio interviews to date and currently have four more scheduled." Included among those interviews was a 15-minute chat with Moody Broadcasting Radio, which airs more than 374 stations coast to coast. "I am excited and having fun with the radio interviews and hope they will result in book sales. So get ready, Xulon, to take orders and print those books! What a blessing to have a 24-hour order line available for order taking."
Stellar Reviews, PR Write-up, and Awards for Xulon Author

Grace Period
Whatever Xulon author Robert Hammond has been doing to promote his book, it's working. The tenacious author of Grace Period: The Awakening of Abel Adams used his pen to detail a story of one man's deliverance from a labyrinth of crime, cults, and incarceration, and to witness the triumph of truth over falsehood and rejoice in the discovery of love through the power of faith. One thing Hammond certainly is enjoying right now, aside from the power of faith, is the fruits of his labor. A slew of interviews, book signings, and critical praise were eclipsed only by a recent nod from the Indie Excellence Book Awards 2007, which placed his book as a finalist in both their "religious fiction" and "African-American fiction" categories.

Now that Hammond's demand as a writer is red-hot, several stations have been eager to book him on their show. "The Big Finale" program, hosted by Bruce Collins, sat down recently with Hammond for a chat about Abel Adams, and Collins has promised a review of his novel to AmericanChronicle.com, WorldSentinel.com, and raidersnewsnetwork.com. The interview is located at www.radiohaven.net.

Additionally, Hammond's book landed him a stellar press release and critical acclaim from Debra Gaynor of ReaderViews. The website's Tyler R. Tichelaar also sat down for an interview with Hammond to discuss Abel Adams, the Bible's influence in Western literature, reader responses, and upcoming projects. Throughout the course of the chat, Hammond revealed his plans for a Grace Period screenplay and another screenplay he is working on titled Black's Law. The full interview can be accessed at http://www.readerviews.com/InterviewHammond.html.

A currently featured book on ReaderViews.com, the book has received excellent reviews and article coverage as well as the release of a multimedia PreView (see www.readerviews.com for more information).

Writer Stages Meet and Greet in Hometown Courtesy of Tribune-Star

The Magnificent Church
Terre Haute, Indiana, was all abuzz in mid-April when Xulon author Bill Campbell staged a book signing at the local Open Door Bookstore. The award-winning local newspaper, Tribune-Star, provided advertisement for the budding author's hometown visit, which prompted an admirable turnout from those eager to meet Campbell. His book, The Magnificent Church, "is designed for ministers, church leaders, and members of the congregation. It is ideally suited for use as a leadership and congregational study guide," says the author.
Decker's Fame Soars to Bedazzling Heights

The Bedazzling Bowl
Kids everywhere are raving about The Bedazzling Bowl, a middle grade book which has received high marks across the board. The Barnes & Noble in Howell, New Jersey, also carries the title in their religious children's section. When the author, Wendy Lynn Decker, queried the manager as to the status of her book sales, she was told they are selling! "She moved them right up front behind the counter for quick purchase, and she also said they will be ordering more for [another] signing and reading," says Decker. "My picture and book cover are right in the entrance of the store!" This success she owes in part to her recent book signings at the Christian Coffee House and Bookstore in Brick, New Jersey. The two-time event made a huge impact and sold books-so much so that the manager asked her back to do a signing and reading for The Holy Family School."
Xulon Author's Press Overload Makes Her a Satisfied Woman

Satisfied Woman
Sarah Goebel has had a prayerful press tour thus far. Two book signings in March culminated in an estimated 18 books sold and an added bonus: "I had the opportunity to pray with some people-a wonderful time!" The signings, held at The Christian Bookstore in Lumberton, North Carolina, and the Family Christian Stores outlet in Fayetteville, North Carolina, were to promote Goebel's new book, Satisfied Woman, which is about how to cultivate a wonderful spiritual state as you learn to identify and alleviate lies embedded in your belief system that produce destructive behaviors. She also had a five-minute live radio interview with Fairmont, North Carolina's WGQR gospel station; an extensive 30-minute taped radio interview with WTLN radio, which was aired on "The Drive Home With Pat Williams"; a 30-minute live interview with WKTO radio's "Daily Moments With Carol"; and a 15-minute interview with Donny Hinkle and Melissa Flores on the "Listener Cafe" program of Grantsville, Maryland's He's Alive Radio Station. Says Goebel, "I am hopeful that more interviews will be scheduled, giving me the opportunity to 'declare His answer' for our life's journey."
Author Gets First Lady's Seal of Approval

My Only Way Out
Ruth Hollon has had a lot on her plate this year. The My Only Way Out author's journey began when her hometown newspaper devoted spots to her and her book in two different papers, followed by an interview on local radio station WFCJ in Dayton, Ohio. When she sent a copy of her book to Laura Bush, the first lady sent her a signed card thanking her for the book and giving her kind words of support. Since then, Hollon has done several book signings in Family Christian Stores and has promoted her book at craft shows. "I talk to people about my book and hand out business cards and postcards," says Hollon. "Thousands of people attend every year. I get good feedback after people read my true story. My goal is to get as many people possible to read my story so they can believe there is a God that will help them also."
Book Signing Boosts Sales for Arizona Author

The Warm Wonderful World Of Hospitality
During Christmas, author Robin Mercer cozied up in the warm atmosphere of New Life Christian Bookstore in Show Low, Arizona, to greet fans and sign copies of The Warm Wonderful World of Hospitality. Throughout the weekend, Mercer sold 13 books, most of them purchased as last-minute holiday gifts. She also rubbed shoulders with Barbara Bruce, a local personality who hosts her own radio show and has booked Mercer for an interview. She has other engagements planned as well. "More than anything" says Mercer, "being accountable for the contents of my book has re-inspired me to take my own advice and God's calling to 'slow down, invite people into my home, and bless one another!'"
Author's Radio Appearance Sparks Chain of Events

LESSONS FROM THE ROAD
Duane Watkins recently sat down as a featured guest for a one-on-one interview on AM radio's "Feedback" with Don Neagle. The talk program, which features local people of interest, quizzed Watkins about his personal history leading up to the writing of his devotional book, Lessons from the Road, as well as the book's contents. The one-hour interview was a great hit with Neagle's regular listeners, and several callers phoned the station to talk to Watkins. Reports the author, "This appearance started the progression of events leading up to what is hoped to be the first of several book signings." His first book signing took place at Nancy's Hair Salon in Russellville, Kentucky, Watson's hometown. He is confident that more appearances will soon follow.

The appearances, which took place at B. Dalton Books at the Chesapeake Mall in Chesapeake, Virginia, and at a local church event, were well-received, as was McCray's book. She is still waiting to hear back from a few other bookstores as well and hopes to gain exposure in a variety of other media outlets.
‘Fascinating Story’ Takes Hold of Myrtle Beach

My Visit with Jesus of Nazareth
Author Asbury H. Williams just bought himself a first-class seat on the publicity train, and it’s proving to be a solid trip to the top. The author has been hard at work drumming up support for his recent release, My Visit with Jesus of Nazareth. The Myrtle Beach Herald, a local newspaper in his native South Carolina, devoted a positive quarter-page review to his book. In addition, he was interviewed on Talk Radio with former WNBC news anchor and White House reporter Steve Porter. Williams also found time to send a copy of his book to the dean of George W. Truett Seminary in Waco, Texas, the alma mater of one of his book’s characters. The dean had only good things to say about the book: “It is a fascinating story and well-written.”

One of the highlights of this year’s annual fundraiser for Ephesians Life Ministries was the appearance of author Susan Kaye Behm, who had the privilege of speaking about her book, The Journey: Beyond the Savage. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the book were donated toward the ministry. Says Behm, “Many of the therapists and counselors present in the group informed me they were using my book in their practices, referring to it with some of their clients and even having a number of them read it to receive the hope and inspiration the book provides. In addition, many stated how powerful and professional the talk was that I’d delivered at the event.”

Hopper says of his recent interview, “[It] was for one hour without interruption. What a blessing this was. It is amazing the doors that God is opening. Book Finds Own Publicity Momentum

Trees Wear Glasses, Don't They?
When author Deborah B. Turner received her first shipment of books, she sent several to well-known ministries. So far she has received requests from two of the ministries requesting a videotape of her sharing her testimony before an audience. One of those was Focus on the Family.
Meanwhile, her book Trees Wear Glasses, Don't They? has been selling so well at a Nashville bookstore that she’s been invited to attend CBA Advance in January as a guest of the bookstore—and do a book-signing while she’s in town.
An executive with the SC Southern Baptist Association wrote to Turner telling how her book inspired an airplane conversation that resulted in the fellow passenger leaving with her book in hand. Writes Turner, “All of this is happening with me doing very little to promote the book myself. I have had one book signing where we sold 30 books in two hours, and many others who had already purchased the book brought theirs in for signing. Also, I have shared my testimony several times and have four other churches on the calendar in the next couple of months.” Kudos to you, Deborah!

Author Holds Event for Pregnant Hurricane Survivors

Pregnancy = 40 Weeks of Preparation
Tina M. Ellis, author of Pregnancy = 40 Weeks of Preparation, organized an event called Author for Pregnant Katrina Victims in the fall of 2005. To garner support for the pregnant hurricane survivors, she spoke at the Midwestern Christian Book Fair in Iowa City, Iowa, and also held various book-signing events at which she collected maternity and new baby items for hurricane victims.
Throughout the Bible, God uses the number 40—it rained for 40 days and nights during Noah’s flood, Jesus was tempted for 40 days and fasted for 40 days and nights. The number 40 provides an optimal opportunity to conquer trials and challenges and become more like God, writes Ellis, so why should pregnancy be any different?
