LONGWOOD, FLÑBelieving that today's church has minimized the power of prayer and fasting, a minister who serves in the Bahamas has issued a challenge to Christians to demonstrate unlimited God's power on earth by returning to those practices.
"God's power has been limited by the church's lack of spiritual discipline," says Anne Grant, author of The Power of Prayer and Fasting (paperback, 978-1-60477-077-3). "There is too much of us and not enough of God being displayed in His pulpits."
Grant describes her book as a primer on the importance of prayer and fasting, as well as a call to pray and fast in order to become more intimate with God and to be able to quickly respond to His leading. Through biblical teaching and stories from her own life, the author shows readers the value of a "spiritual fast." "It pulls you away from the world, the flesh, and the devil, and keeps you spiritually alert," she says. "It is a cry from the heart of God for His children to 'come away' and be filled with heaven's energy by giving themselves to prayer and fasting. This will only happen if we empty ourselves of us. 'I must decrease'Ñand allow the Spirit of God to fill usÑ'and He must increase.'"
Anne Grant was born in Duncan's Town, Ragged Island, in the Bahamas. She gave birth one year after her doctor told she would never have children, and later survived cancer and a deep vein thrombosis, all of which she credits to prayer and fasting. An end-time prophetess, teacher, evangelist, and revivalist, Anne holds a bachelor's degree in Christian psychology and a master's degree in theology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary in Florida. She and her husband serve as pastors of A Call to Holiness MinistriesÑAgape House, a church in the Bahamas that has grown to 600 members in five years.
