LONGWOOD, FL-When Barbara Cook's world literally crashed around her, she turned to memories of her grandmother's inspiring faith through her own hardships for direction in moving forward. That faith is illuminated in Cook's new book, Led by Faith (paperback, 978-1-60266-989-5), which continues the story of the life and faith of Nellie Morgan Williams.
According to Cook, "Led by Faith was written to give readers hope and encouragement with true examples of God's grace and guidance, through the maze of life's difficulties." Cook knows this gentle persuasion firsthand, being emboldened by her grandmother's story within the context of her own life.
Cook not only is encouraged by the story of Nellie, she resonates with it. Both had to learn to navigate through the extremes life dealt them by leaning on their heavenly Father. "Sitting with my grandmother as she told her story of losing both parents by the time she was 15, of having no relatives, no money, no prospects, and literally only God to take care of her, is still vivid in my mind," says Cook, who would grow up to have her own series of intense hardships that would lead her back to her grandmother's story.
Barbara Cook's earliest memories include being rushed to a bomb shelter in Wales. Drama always has been a part of her family history, as has the faith to endure hard times. Cook began writing as a child, using her only available resource: butcher's paper. A scholarship gave her access to Music and Drama College, where she became a member of a light opera company. She emigrated to the United States in 1979. She lives with her husband in a log cabin in Colorado, where she paints and plans future books about her family story.
