LONGWOOD, FL-Before fast food, microwave ovens, and home videos there existed a world where adventure was as close as your next thought. Entertainment wasn't where you went or how much money you spent, but what you did. In The Sounds at River's Edge (paperback, 978-1-60477-142-8) author Bobbie McLaren gives voice to the imagination of a child and the unconditional love of a father.
The author, once an imaginative child herself, recalls growing up alongside the Intracoastal Waterway with a cantankerous sister in a world that seemed to move more slowly. She writes stories that remind the reader of those times filled with crazy stunts, when playing outside was normal for most children and staying inside was pure torture. Being grounded meant no television or telephone.
According to McLaren, we learn our greatest lessons from the errors of our past, with some of the greatest gifts coming from our most challenging relationships. "Everyone needs to know love should always be unconditional," she says.
She encourages readers to keep having fun, no matter what age they are.
Bobbie J. McLaren lives in northeast Alabama atop Lookout Mountain. She is involved with writing Vacation Bible School programs for her church and working with dramas. Learning to paint and sketch in addition to full-time employment keeps her busy. She shares her home with two cats and her life with her family that lives all around her in the Fort Payne area.
