Charles D. Long grew up in Hagerstown, Maryland. After high school, he joined the 82nd Airborne Division. He married his wife Penny in 1948 and they had three children: Pamela, Barry, and John. Long served in Special Forces with duty stations in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. Retiring from the Army, he purchased a 440-acre stock farm in West Virginia. He and his wife had a life-changing experience with God, and Long is now the pastor of five United Methodist Churches.
