LONGWOOD, FL-As an 80-year-old former missionary of the Mormon Church, author Claude Heater spent a lifetime pursuing answers to the Book of Mormon and the movement it inspired. During the course of his journey, however, he uncovered a very tangled web of deception. The Book of Mormon is rife with absurdities and contradictions and presents the biblical God as ignorant, inept, ineffectual, and unjust. The Most Correct Book on Earth (paperback, 978-1-60266-494-4) attempts to untangle this convoluted fantasy to give honest truth-seekers a look at some of the most cunning, wicked, bold, and deep-laid impositions ever thrust upon the world.
"This book is based essentially on one premise," says Heater. "Anything that presents the God of the universe as ignorant, sadistic, illogical, oblivious to basic human needs, contradictory, unjust, or a God of total predestination without man's free agency to carve out his future must be rejected. Any presidential candidate of 'faith' whose God encourages his 'prophets' to deceive should be evaluated very closely."
In 1959, Heater portrayed the role of Jesus alongside Charlton Heston in the Academy Award-winning film Ben Hur. Working with Heston inspired a sojourn to Mt. Sinai, Egypt, where Heater fasted and prayed on top of the mountain for answers. For years he continued in his quest for truth, until in 1977 he asked for and received excommunication from the Church of Latter-day Saints. Since then, he has attempted to put into focus the reasons why the Book of Mormon should be rejected by anyone searching for the true and eternal Lord and Savior.
Claude Heater was an opera singer who had a major career in Europe apart from his role in Ben Hur and a film version of Wagner's opera Tristan and Isolde. He is currently coaching his fiancé, who sings the title role of Aida in Berkeley, California.
