Frances Garrett Baumgardner was born on an Alabama farm and graduated from State University of New York, Plattsburgh, with a BA in psychology. She has been a minister's wife for 35 years, and she has three grown children: Stella Louise; Stephens, Jr.; and Joshua Pierce.
