A calling to missionary service yields life full of struggles and victories

LONGWOOD, FL-Born a Minnesota farm girl, Helen Jean Moose Zwyghuizen gave her heart to Christ at an early age and never looked back. During the course of an exciting missionary calling that spanned many years and saw the rise of two wars the Second World War and the Cold War she lived out the tenacity of her calling to missionary service and allowed obstacles to become stepping stones to service for Christ. Zwyghuizen believes that after reading her book, Daily Choices for Christ ($13.99, paperback, 978-1-60034-943-0; $21.99, hardcover, 978-1-60034-947-8), "People will accept the Lord and young people will give their lives for full-time service" just as she did. Taking a fly-on-the-wall perspective, the book tells of the inner battles and decisions the author faced and is narrated in such a way that readers will identify with her struggles and victories.

In the interim between World War II and the rise of the Cold War, the missionary path led her to China and then to Indonesia, where she continued to serve among the Chinese with her fellow missionaries of the Cleveland-based Baptist Mid-Missions. She enjoyed many careers-pilot, translator, teacher, music instructor, trainer of Christian workers-but none was more fulfilling than her calling of "servant" to others in need of help. The retiree now makes her home in Missouri, where she enjoys writing about her life experiences. Reflecting back on the long path that took her to this moment, Zwyghuizen says with a subdued sense of satisfaction, "God uses even farm girls who are willing to serve Him."

Helen Jean Moose Zwyghuizen spent her entire adult lifetime as a missionary with Baptist Mid-Missions in China, Indonesia, and several other mission ministries. She currently lives in Missouri.
