Games you play as kids foreshadow real-world games later in life

LONGWOOD, FL-Unlike Monopoly, the person who wins at the game of life isn't the one who possesses all the property, money, and possessions, says Holly Miller, author of Life After the Games (paperback, 978-1-60266-186-8; hardcover, 978-1-60266-187-5). Nothing you do will ever compare to the triumph you feel when you recognize you are not equipped to do it all by yourself. Miller shows readers how the games they grew up with as children and teenagers foreshadow the games they play as adults, with one caveat: True hope and peace is only found in offering yourself to something greater than the games of life.

Miller discovered her raison d'être when she realized the games she was playing were obstacles to her spiritual growth and development. "Not everyone knows how to find the reason for living and learn why they are here," says Miller. "I have lived through heartache and hardship and involved myself in far too many worldly flings. I finally surrendered to the mandate on my life after so many struggles. I have not overcome every obstacle, but I can profoundly say I know how to climb over them. I am equipped with my decision and my precious tool the Word of God."

Simply playing the game doesn't mean you are winning. Take it from Miller, whose long road to publishing this book began when she was 13 and received a prophecy about writing a book that mended broken hearts. It was years later, when her life took a drastic change, that those words gripped her soul and she realized their import. That was when she decided to fulfill the remaining portion of the prophecy by mending broken hearts through the sharing of this wisdom.

Holly Miller is a preacher's kid, the youngest of four sisters, and a wife. She lives in Wichita, Kansas, and attends Central Christian Church.
