Futuristic Race Plots Course in a Galaxy Far Away
Sci-fi novel hearkens back to literary classics

LONGWOOD, FL-Prepare to be transported into the futuristic fallen world of The Remnant Choice Volume 1: Burden of Power (paperback, 978-1-60266-190-5), J. L. Brunton's innovative world in which the conflict between good and evil plays out without sensationalized violence and where a passionate yet chaste love story unfolds.

The hope of seeing The Remnant Choice take shape as a published work encouraged Brunton through cancer treatment and many difficult weeks at work. But it was her adolescence that introduced her to literary classics such as Last of the Mohicans and Pride and Prejudice, which added their own unique flavor to her latest offering. She credits stories such as these for modeling a non-emphasis on violence, an overused device in todayÕs entertainment world.

"I recall reading an article theorizing that women hate science fiction because it presents a vision of the future where the clothing is ugly, the furniture is uncomfortable, and no one ever has a successful relationship," says Brunton. "Seeing no reason why the future need be so dismal, I have written this story with enough action to appeal to men, enough 'relationship' to appeal to women, and enough humor to compensate for the uncomfortable furniture."

Though not specifically targeted for Christian audiences, The Remnant Choice is written from a creationist perspective. Although the Bible is silent when it comes to the subject of life on other planets, Brunton believes it provides a framework of assumptions: "Biblically speaking, if human life exists elsewhere in the universe, it would have to have been created by the same God who made life on earth, be subject to the same moral law, and almost certainly subject to the same fall from perfection. These precepts underlie The Remnant Choice."

Although a lifelong fan of the science fiction and fantasy genres, J. L. Brunton has spent her career to date in the banking industry. She shares her home with two cats and a teenager.
