Miracle of Salvation Translated into Free Verse
Poetry compilation runs the gamut, from comic rap to God

LONGWOOD, FL-Songs for the Master (paperback, 978-1-60266-106-6), by avant-garde poet Martin Weiss, is not your run-of-the-mill poetry offering. From pro-life outcries and 9/11 to a comic rap about Purim, the collection runs the gamut in the author's signature free verse style. But even more than this, it is a book filled with love and gratitude to God and Weiss's varied experiences-both joys and struggles-since becoming a Christian.

Weiss has written poetry since he was 14, and he studied it academically at Sarah Lawrence College. This training made it easier for him to give voice to his Christian experience, including moments of exhilaration and occasional discouragement. "I hope that believers and unbelievers alike can grasp a sense of the miracle of salvation and the steadfast love of God, even through the trials and personal inconsistencies that Christians face," says Weiss.

Born into a loving secular Jewish home near New York City, Weiss participated in student protests of the '60s and '70s. After searching for meaning in radical politics, relationships, and artistic expression, he discovered that true fulfillment and peace could only be achieved by accepting the Prince of Peace (Jesus) as Savior. After becoming a Christian, he was instantly cured of a 10-year cigarette smoking habit and made aware of the inerrancy of the Bible as God's Word. "This book of poems and song lyrics is my gift to Him, and my prayer is that He would multiply whatever talent-or talents-it contains for His glory!" says Weiss.

Martin Weiss grew up in Mt. Vernon, New York. In 1979 he moved to Los Angeles, where he now works as an administrative assistant.
