Iconoclastic Author Brings Truth to Popular View of Jesus
Separates myth from history in riveting caveat to Western culture

LONGWOOD, FL-The true identity of Jesus has been obscured by man-centered popular theologies, reducing Jesus of the Scriptures to a second-rate psycho-pagan deity defined primarily by Christmas and Easter sentimentality. Michael Berner's The Anti-Theology of Jesus (paperback, 978-1-60266-457-9) is a brief yet compelling review of orthodox Christology as well as a critique of the modern culture that has rescripted the biblical Jesus to fit into its comfort zone.

Contemporary Western culture "will hopefully gain a sober awareness of how far the Christian world has wandered from its core distinctions," explains Berner. The author, who brings to the table 25 years of pastoring a mission-oriented church in Springfield, Ohio, draws his observations from personal experiences as well as interviews of ministers and businessmen from around the world. The book is both a caveat to casual Christians who ascribe to a belief system perpetuated by holiday greeting cards and sentimentality and a celebration of who Jesus is, what He has done, and what He will do with mankind in the future.

"The book is singular as a concise Christology addressing the apocalyptical aspects of the Man and His message," says Berner. "It exposes the mythical Jesus of popular interpretation as antithetical to the historical Jesus."

Michael Berner is pastor of Grace Fellowship Church in New Carlisle, Ohio, where he has served since 1984. He holds undergraduate degrees from Clark State and Urbana Universities. He holds graduate degrees from Wright State University and Bethany Seminary. Michael Berner lives with his family in Ohio, where he has been a lifelong resident.
