LONGWOOD, FL-When Patricia A. Grimes went to her doctor, she thought she probably had an ear infection. She was stunned to find out that she actually had a life-threatening condition and needed to see a neurosurgeon immediately. After undergoing extensive tests, Grimes was told that she had a congenital defect called a Dural Arteriovenous Malformation. Her condition required major brain surgery. Giants in the Land (paperback, 978-1-60266-385-5) follows Grimes through her shock, trauma, and extended recovery period.
Despite the fact that doctors gave her only a minimal chance of coming through the surgery, Grimes never lost her faith in God and in His ability to bring her back to full health. Her story is one that demonstrates the difference faith can make in how you view the "giants" that enter your life. When Moses sent spies into the land of Canaan, most of the men were terrified of the giants who lived there. But Joshua and Caleb knew that God would give His people victory-even over giants. With similar faith and trust, Grimes knew that God could and would defeat the "giant" in her own life. "With God's gracious blessing I came through a catastrophic illness that I wasn't expected to survive and kept my faith and sense of humor through the whole thing," says Grimes. Her hope is that others who are facing catastrophic medical conditions will read her story and gain faith and encouragement, knowing that God can bring them through.
Patricia A. Grimes lives in Enid, Oklahoma, with her husband of fifty-three years, and their two cats, Kriket and Musette. She works at Northwestern Oklahoma University where she is a Facilitator, (professorŐs assistant).
