LONGWOOD, FL-As Paul R. Cantrell sat in a jail cell, the end result of a 25-year drug addiction that began in the heyday of the '60s and '70s, God impressed upon his heart a series of poems. The poems contained both revelation knowledge and life experience, and they now appear in Cantrell's Poems from God (paperback, 978-1-60266-458-6), which recounts the journey from where he was to where he is now in lyrical form. Watch as God takes him from a $150-a-day drug habit to deacon of one of the oldest churches in America in just two short years.
Says Cantrell, "[The poems are] God's expression of His love for us. I hope readers receive and understand who they are before God, to change for the better if necessary. It is possible, with God’s help, to overcome our past mistakes."
As Cantrell felt the viselike grip Satan had on his life beginning to weaken, he was able to possess the understanding of the character of God and translate it to the pages of his writings. Many of the poems and proverbs in this collection span years and speak volumes about the strength and encouragement each of us need for our journey. As readers follow how God pulled Cantrell through the tough times, they will be able to trust Him to do the same for them.
Paul R. Cantrell was born and raised in West Virginia in a small coal mining town. He moved to the Washington, D.C., area in 1966. Currently residing in northern Virginia, he is now an ordained deacon of First Baptist Church of Alexandria, one of the oldest churches in America.
