LONGWOOD, FL-After extensive experience working in maximum security prisons throughout the United States, author Rogelio Cuesta devised the Spanish-language title Escaparse de las prisiones interiores: La etica como proceso de liberacion (Escaping from the prisons within: ethics as a process of liberation) (paperback, 978-1-60266-746-4) to discuss ethics and moral values. Being the first self-help book of its kind in Spanish, the book takes a hard-hitting look at the teaching of ethics in a correctional setting and incorporates both a strong philosophical and psychological foundation.
Says Cuesta, "[My book will] awaken the conscience about the importance of ethics as an essential component of all education, especially in rehabilitation programs. It is only through the integration of ethics in daily life that one can be truly human."
Bringing with him a deep theological foundation as well as experience in the world of education, Cuesta bases the book on his experience working as a teacher at the secondary and university level in maximum-security prisons. Since 1980, he has established and taught an ethical values program as part of "moral therapy" for the prisoners.
Rogelio Cuesta was born in Le—n, Spain. He studied Spanish literature at the University of New York and philosophy and theology in Spain, Switzerland, and Italy. He is a professor of the State University of New York.
